Candle Care

Candle Care Instructions

At Ramona Candle Co., our mother-daughter team handcrafts each candle in small batches in Ramona, California, using nontoxic soy and beeswax to bring a heartfelt glow to your home. Follow these care tips to ensure a safe, long-lasting, and eco-friendly burn for our “perfectly imperfect” candles.

Before Lighting

•  Trim the Wick: Before each lighting, trim the wick to 1/4 inch (about 6 mm), roughly the width of a pencil eraser or 2 quarters stacked. This promotes a clean burn and reduces smoke or soot.

•  Place Safely: Set your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from drafts, flammable items (e.g., curtains), children, and pets.

•  Check the Jar: Ensure the glass or container is free of cracks or damage, especially for our 1.5 oz to 7.9 oz jars.

While Burning

•  First Burn: Allow the wax to melt to the edges of the container (2–4 hours, depending on size) to prevent tunneling and maximize burn time.

•  Approximate First Burn Times:

•  1.5 oz: 1–2 hours

•  3.6 oz: 1.5–2.5 hours

•  4 oz: 1.5–2.5 hours

•  7 oz: 2–3 hours

•  7.9 oz: 2–3.5 hours

•  Burn Duration: Burn for no more than 4 hours at a time to maintain wax quality and prevent overheating. Extinguish, let cool, and trim the wick before relighting.

•  Stay Attentive: Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep it in sight to ensure safety.

After Burning

•  Extinguish Safely: Use a snuffer or dip the wick into the wax to extinguish (avoid blowing). Straighten the wick after cooling.

•  Clean the Jar: If wax residue builds up, wipe with a soft cloth after cooling to maintain the jar’s clarity.

•  Reuse the Container: When ½ inch of wax remains, stop burning. Clean with warm, soapy water to repurpose as a planter, storage jar, or decor item, honoring our eco-friendly mission.

Safety Tips

•  Allergies: Our nontoxic candles are crafted with high-quality ingredients, but test in a well-ventilated area if sensitive to fragrances. Discontinue use if irritation occurs.

•  Wick Issues: If the flame is too large or smoky, extinguish, cool, and trim the wick to ¼ inch. For wood wicks (if applicable), remove charred bits.

•  Storage: Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve scent and texture.

•  Eco-Conscious Use: Our soy and beeswax candles burn cleanly, but ensure proper ventilation to maintain air quality.
