Frequently Asked Questions
About Our Candles
We're here to help with any questions about our candles, your orders, or our mission. Feel free to reach out!
1. What makes Ramona Candle Co. candles special?
Our candles are handcrafted in small batches in Ramona, California, with care and attention to detail. Each candle is “perfectly imperfect,” meaning slight variations in color, texture, or scent add to their artisanal charm. We use high-quality ingredients to create unique, long-lasting candles that light up your moments.
2. Are your candles really made in the USA?
Yes! Every Ramona Candle Co. candle is proudly handcrafted in Ramona, California, using American-sourced materials whenever possible, in compliance with FTC “Made in USA” standards. Learn more in our Candle Disclaimer.
3. What materials are used in your candles?
Our candles are made with premium ingredients. We are dedicated to offering the best materials because YOU deserve nothing less. Always free from phthalates, and anything on California's Prop 65 list, our products are made with ingredients and materials such as 100% pure and natural beeswax, eco-friendly and clean burning soy wax, phthalate-free, vegan essential oils and/or fragrance oils, and lead-free cotton wicks. Upon request, for any of our products, we are happy to provide the certification sheets or other information that is available to us at the time; allowing you to make informed decisions about what ingredients are acceptable to you. If you have allergies, review ingredients and test in a well-ventilated area.
4. Why do some products look slightly different? And what is that white powder on some beeswax items?
As handmade products, our candles may have minor variations in wax finish, wick placement, or fragrance intensity. These “perfectly imperfect” traits are normal and reflect the unique, artisanal nature of our process. That white dusty looking powder on your beeswax products is called BLOOM. Natural oils and resins that are present in pure beeswax will float to the surface when exposed to temperature changes. It's a great sign that you truly have pure beeswax...cool, huh? You can simply remove it by buffing with a clean cloth.
5. How long do your candles burn?
Burn times for our soy candles vary by size - beeswax are known for a longer burn time. Here are approximate burn times for our candles when following our Candle Care Instructions:
• 1.5 oz (~42.52 g): 8–12 hours
• 3.6 oz (~102.06 g): 18–24 hours
• 4 oz (~113.40 g): 20–28 hours
• 7 oz (~198.45 g): 35–45 hours
• 7.9 oz (~223.96 g): 40–50 hours
Note: Burn times are estimates based on industry standards for container candles, assuming proper care.
Candle Care & Safety
6. How do I get the best burn from my candle?
For an even burn, trim the wick to ¼ inch before each use, allow the wax to melt to the edges on the first burn (2–4 hours), and burn for no more than 4 hours at a time. See our Candle Care Instructions for full details.
7. Why is my candle tunneling?
Tunneling occurs when the wax doesn’t melt evenly, often due to short burn times. Ensure the first burn reaches the container’s edges, and trim the wick regularly. If tunneling persists, contact us at Info@RamonaCandleCo.com for tips.
8. Can I reuse the candle container?
Yes! Once ½ inch of wax remains, extinguish the candle, let it cool, and clean with warm, soapy water. Repurpose the container as a planter, storage jar, or decor item.
9. Are your candles safe for people with allergies?
Our candles are made with high-quality ingredients, but fragrances may affect sensitive individuals. Test in a well-ventilated area and discontinue use if irritation occurs. Contact us for ingredient-specific questions.
10. What should I do if my candle smokes or has a large flame?
Excessive smoke or a large flame is often due to an untrimmed wick. Extinguish the candle, let it cool, and trim the wick to ¼ inch. Ensure the candle is away from drafts. If issues persist, reach out to Info@RamonaCandleCo.com.
